The importance of recognising the link between relief rehabilitation and development.

VOICE and CONCORD have cooperated together in a joint position paper to advocate why linking relief rehabilitation and development (LRRD) is important, and how it can help deliver better aid to crisis-affected populations and vulnerable groups.

This ‘joined up’ approach is about increasing cooperating and integration between areas such as disaster risk reduction and risk management with development projects.

This is about linking the short term goals of relief and humanitarian activities with the long term goals of development. Essentially, by linking the two areas together, we believe that disaster response provides an opportunity to address root causes of vulnerability and thus reduce future future risk which inherently contributes to the long term goals of development.
