Members of CONCORD gathered together in Brussels on June 5-6 for CONCORD’s 2012 General Assembly. With both Board Members and President to be elected, it was a landmark occasion as members voted to elect Joanna Maycock, Head of Europe in the NGO ActionAid, to take over the reins of Justin Kilcullen of Irish NGO Trocaire, thus closing a six-year long chapter in CONCORD’s history. A new entry has already been written into the history book of CONCORD with Joanna Maycock becoming the first female President of CONCORD in its nine year history.
As previously mentioned, new Board Members were also up for election and everyone was listening intently as the announcements were made; Marina Sarli from the Greek NGO National Platform, Glen Tarman from BOND, the UK NGO National Platform, and Rudy De Meyer from 11.11.11, part of the Belgian NGO National Platform, were all elected by the General Assembly and the three will be eager to start well in their newly mandated three year tenures.
CONCORD was also delighted to welcome new NGOs; LU joined as the National Platform Member of Lithuania while World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) joined as an Associate Member.
Reflective of CONCORD’s desire to engage with the European institutions in our work, Andris Piebalgs, the EU Commissioner responsible for Development, was also in attendence to give his warm welcomes to the new appointments at CONCORD.
