(Brussels, 4-5 June 2014) CONCORD, the European confederation of Relief and Development NGOs has elected Johannes Trimmel as its new President at its General Assembly held in Brussels.

Trimmel, from the Austrian National Platform, replaces Joanna Maycock from ActionAid, who led the confederation from 2012 and stepped down to take up a new role as secretary general at the European Women’s Lobby.
For Johannes Trimmel, new CONCORD President: “It’s a great pleasure to have been elected President and I’d like to thank all our members and outgoing President Joanna Maycock for their excellent work for the European NGO community over these last years.
With a new European Parliament and European Commission set to take shape in the coming months, we need to show the positive impact of development policies and champion the role of civil society now more than ever.”
New board members
At this year’s General Assembly, two new board members were elected: Laura Sullivan from ActionAid International and Olivia Baciu from the Romanian National Platform Fond. Marius Wanders from World Vision, Iza Toth from CIDSE and Carlos Cabo from the Spanish National platform ‘Coordinadora’ were re-elected to the Board. Rilli Lappalainen from the Finnish national platform left the board after 6 years and two consecutive mandates.
CONCORD increases its membership
The Confederation also grew in size welcoming two new NGOs; the SOS Children’s Villages and the Croatian National Platform CROSOL. This brings the CONCORD membership to 28 national platforms – one per EU member state – and 18 international networks, plus 2 associate members.
