Structured dialogue is an EC initiative which discusses the involvement of civil society organisations (CSOs) and local authorities (LAs) in EC development cooperation. This paper outlines the key principles upon which CONCORD will base its engagement in the Structured Dialogue and it is intended to be a reference document used within CONCORD’s Working Groups.

Key recommendations

  • Funding mechanisms must be coherent with EC policies as well as with the global development objectives, while recognising the diversity and nature of CSOs.
  • Civil society participation should be facilitated through the creation and institutionalisation of spaces of dialogue for CSOs, providing the basis for the definition of cooperation strategies and policies, funding mechanisms, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, etc., thus enabling more consistency between public policies and strategies for each type of actor.
