This letter is based on our analysis with regards to the upcoming EC Communication on the EU position for the UN HLD on International Migration and Development and future orientations for EU policy in the area of migration and development.

We plea for the EU to consistently adopt a human rights and migrant-centred approach, as the most effective strategy to give rise to policies that address the root causes of forced migration – notably violent conflict, climate change, unemployment, poverty and inequality – and guarantee that the EU responds adequately in terms of promoting human development, which in turn will provide alternatives to forced migration.
