The European Commission has adopted a proposal to make 2015 the European Year of Development.

The formal proposal will now be considered for adoption by the Parliament and Council.

2015 is a significant year for development, as it is the final year for the Millenium Development Goals to be achieved; and the year in which the EU will make major decisions on its post 2015 development agenda, and how to replace the MDG’s.

The European Year of Development will be a key opportunity to raise awareness of development, and show European citizens the work that is being done to tackle the major problems that are still being faced.
