On Sunday, March 11, a tragic plane crash took the lives of all 157 passengers travelling to Nairobi. Among the victims was Paolo Dieci, a most dedicated and passionate advocate for international cooperation.
CONCORD, the European NGO confederation for relief and development, is deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of our colleagues, Paolo Dieci, who died in the Ethiopian Airlines crash yesterday, March 11 2019. Paolo founded and led the organisations Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli (CISP) as well as Link2007, and dedicated his life to improving the lives of those less fortunate than himself.
“Today we all feel alone.
From tomorrow, however, we will start working again to affirm the rights of every human being in any part of the world, as Paolo would have done, with untiring tenacity. “
We have also learnt of the loss of a number of colleagues from other agencies – both non-governmental organisations as well as the United Nations.
Our thoughts and heartfelt sympathy go out to Paolo’s family and loved ones and those of all the victims of this tragic accident.
