Reaction to Aquarius case: We stand for a Europe of global solidarity with migrants crossing the Mediterranean
Brussels 12/06/2018 – The Migration experts of CONCORD Europe, the European Confederation of Development NGOs, strongly condemn the decision of the Italian government to close the harbours for the reception of migrants rescued in the Mediterranean and ask all Member States to share the reception by opening their harbours, as done by the Spanish government, and by opening new regular pathways.
CONCORD new paper examines civil society at the heart of democracy and sustainable development. It looks at the key components of civic space and builds some relevant recommendations to civil society as well as to EU institutions and Member States.
On the occasion of the EU leaders meeting, taking place in Valletta on February 8-9, CONCORD expresses its concern that Official Development Assistance (ODA) is increasingly used for the promotion of European migration and security interests. This is policy incoherence in its worst form, ignoring the EU Treaty obligation for Policy Coherence for Development and the 2030 Agenda’s commitment to Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development.
