What we do
Policy & Advocacy
We are the main interlocutor with the EU institutions on development policies. We aim to positively influence the European development policies for a fair, just and sustainable world.
We want to strengthen the impact of European development NGOs vis-à-vis the European Institutions. We monitor the EU policies related to development objectives and advocate for coherent, fair and sustainable policies, considering their global impact.
The work of the Confederation is carried out by the members, split into respective working structures depending on their experience. These groups feed the political debate and contribute towards improving the formulation of European policies affecting development cooperation and humanitarian aid. The current working structures are reflected into the 4 areas of work below.
European policies have to be coherent and take their global impact into consideration. This is what we advocate for to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
Financing for Development
Europe’s funding for development should be fair, genuine, coherent and allow ownership. To ensure quantity as well as quality, we monitor Europe’s engagement towards Aid target.
Civil Society Space
Civil Society Space is shrinking all around the world. We want to enable and enhance political space for a full participation and collaboration of the Civil Society in Europe and around the world.
Global Citizenship Education
A fair and sustainable world can only be achieved with the engagement of citizens. We believe global citizenship education is a key tool in creating an active global civil society.
As membership-based organisation and considering the current situation of the CSOs in Europe (shrinking civic space, rise of euroscepticism, political radicalism and criticism against our sector), CONCORD also contributes to building the resilience of the sector.
Through the Membership & Communication Team, CONCORD facilitates the engagement and enables the (environment for the) work of the confederation by:
- Reinforcing members’ capacities through peer learning and community building
- Ensuring smooth information flows and maintaining external visibility
- Building inclusive leadership
