Since 2020, Mikael Leyi is the Secretary General of SOLIDAR, a European network of more than 50 progressive civil society organisations from 26 countries in Europe and beyond, working to advance social justice through a just transition in Europe and worldwide. A Political Scientist and Philologist, with degrees from the universities of Stockholm and Uppsala, he has more than 18 years of experience from working with development cooperation and support for just transition, social rights and democracy in Latin America, Southern Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe in various leadership roles.

In his current capacity he initiated the European Alliance for a Just Transition, a network led by SOLIDAR that gathers more than 40 European level organisations and political families under a common vision to broaden, deepen and accelerate Europe’s transformative agenda.

Mr. Leyi is a frequent speaker, moderator, and interlocutor at the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Parliament, and related to European Commission events as well as serving at several advisory boards of large-scale European level research projects and networks.
