Gender Equality

What’s the issue?

Despite important progress over the past decades, gender inequality remains a persistent challenge in both the EU and globally, with women’s rights being rolled back in many regions of the world.

In this context, there is a growing risk that the EU’s own efforts to promote gender equality, both internally and through its external action, are weakening, with ambitions for progress being scaled back and commitments diluted.

As gender equality is now mainstreamed across several of CONCORD’s projects, this issue remains a key advocacy focus, ensuring the EU’s commitments in its global engagement and promoting a vision based on feminist and decolonial principles.

Key Projects

Equality and Leaving No One Behind

Fighting for equality and reaching those furthest behind are the soul of international cooperation. Against a background of growing political hostility, anti-gender reactions and the EU’s increased focus on self-interest, this project will ensure CONCORD remains active and influential in shaping the EU’s political priorities and world views.

The project calls on the EU to stick to its commitments around equality, by playing our role as watchdogs and defending a vision for international cooperation and partnerships worth fighting for.

CONCORD’s Position Paper on GAP IV

The current Gender Equality Strategy has a section on external action, essentially composed of a commitment to the Gender Action Plan III.

We recommend that the new Gender Equality Strategy adopts the same approach with a specific section on EU external action highlighting the EU commitment to continue implementing GAP III until 2027 and to adopt and implement a Gender Action Plan IV after 2027.

In this paper, CONCORD highlights its first key recommendations for GAP IV.
