Equality and Leaving No One Behind
What’s the issue?
Fighting for equality and reaching those furthest behind are the soul of international cooperation. Against a background of growing political hostility, anti-gender reactions and the EU’s increased focus on self-interest, this project will ensure CONCORD remains active and influential in shaping the EU’s political priorities and world views.
The project calls on the EU to stick to its commitments around equality, by playing our role as watchdogs and defending a vision for international cooperation and partnerships worth fighting for.
Sub-projects
Gender Equality in EU External Action
Gender inequality remains a persistent challenge in both the EU and globally, with women’s rights being rolled back in many regions of the world, partly due to current political developments.
In this context, this project focuses on gender equality as both a fundamental right and a legal obligation under the EU treaties, as well as a key element in addressing global inequalities. It focuses on monitoring the implementation of the EU Gender Action Plan III (GAPIII), while actively shaping the groundwork for an even more ambitious successor, GAPIV.
Its aim is to ensure that the EU strengthens its commitments to gender equality in its engagement with the world, building on and advancing its current achievements.
Human Development and Tackling Inequalities
This sub-project works to ensure that human development and tackling inequalities remain at the forefront of the EU external action agenda by advocating for institutions to stick to their commitment to “leave no one behind”.
This includes advocating for the meaningful use of existing, relevant EU tools – particularly the gender, disability and inequality markers – and exposing the contribution our confederation makes to human development and equality.
It sustains CONCORD’s call for systemic change as well, in particular towards approaches to the economy that put wellbeing and social progress at the core.

Europe’s new Social Economy Action Plan cannot be an ‘add-on’ to the mainstream economy that cleans up the mess that profit-maximising businesses leave behind after they’ve made their money, but become the new mainstream as part of the necessary transition to sustainable production and consumption patterns.
