Communications Adviser (Full-Time CDD Contract from Feb./March 2025 to December 2025)
CONCORD is seeking a highly motivated Communications Adviser to join our Communications Team to contribute to creating, managing, and implementing strategies that strengthen internal communication across the Confederation.

CONCORD is the European Confederation of NGOs working on sustainable development and international cooperation. We are made up of 58 member organisations: 27 national platforms, 24 international networks and 7 associate members that represent over 2,600 NGOs supported by millions of people across Europe.

ROLE SPECIFICATION
The Communications Adviser is especially responsible for creating, managing, and implementing communication plans that strengthen internal communication across the Confederation. This person will work closely with our Membership Adviser and Media and Communications Adviser and occasionally contribute to our external communication work (such as developing external comms work for specific projects).
This role is essential for building a cohesive and collaborative environment and ensuring that staff and members are well-informed, aligned with CONCORD’s vision, purpose and values, and actively engaged in CONCORD’s work. This position has a rolling deadline.
Key areas of responsibility
- Develop and implement the Internal Communication Guidelines
- Design and oversee communication plans that promote transparency, organisational cohesion, and knowledge-sharing across member organisations.
- Strengthen a structured internal communication framework that supports adequate information flow, feedback channels, and member engagement.
- Enhance members’ engagement.
- Lead, prepare, and gather communication content for bi-monthly newsletters, digests, and special newsletters.
- Facilitate mutual learning and exchange with communication experts from the Confederation (e.g. Communication Community);
- Work closely with the Media and Comms Adviser on translating advocacy into internal and external messaging and publications
- Branding:
- Act as guardian of CONCORD’s branding; maintain and implement a coherent editorial style and tone for our Confederation; ensure all materials align with donors’ rules;
- Liaise with external providers (designer, illustrator, webmaster);
- Advocacy and Impact:
- Collaborate with the Policy and Advocacy Adviser(s) to ensure members better understand the EU environment and amplify advocacy messages’ impact.
- Co-create communication messages and tools to reinforce advocacy recommendations with relevant colleagues.
- Design and disseminate Communication toolkits for members.
- Publications:
- Coordinate the development of CONCORD’s Annual Report.
- When needed, the production of other relevant print and digital materials and communication tools. And coordinate the development of other CONCORD publications.
- Branding:
- Monitor the impact of communications actions and analyse results to adapt our communications continuously;
- Monitor emerging trends and ways to keep the organisation abreast of changes in digital communication;
- As part of the team, you will also be expected to support organising certain events and activities, such as the General Assembly.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The successful candidate will understand and be committed to CONCORD’s vision and purpose in addition to the following:
Knowledge
- Academic background or professional experience in communications, journalism, and the development and/or human rights sector;
- Familiarity with emerging digital communication tools and trends (e.g., AI-powered tools, analytics, and engagement platforms) to enhance internal communication.
- Awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles to ensure internal communications are inclusive and resonate across diverse members.
- Knowledge of social media and online communication channels;
- Interest in and good knowledge of EU politics, policy-making and processes, including issues about sustainable development and international cooperation;
- Understanding of how to influence EU processes and positions through communications;
- Competence with standard office software (e.g. Google Suite);
- Proficient in content creation and management software; knowledge of design, especially Adobe In-Design, an asset;
- Excellent command of English (C2 minimum) is required. Working knowledge of French and Spanish is an advantage.
Experience
- 2-5 years of professional experience (excluding student internships) in communication work, some of which must be in a civil society organisation; experience in a membership-based organisation is an asset;
- Experience in tracking and analysing the impact of internal communication efforts using tools like Google Analytics, dashboards, or members feedback systems.
- Experience in drafting and revising texts;
- Experience in publication and design;
- Experience in managing online communication tools such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Mailchimp, WordPress, and Adobe daily;
- Campaign background and public engagement experience would be a distinct asset, as well as knowledge in some of the key areas of CONCORD work;
Skills

- Excellent written and oral skills in English or mother tongue;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including tactful and effective facilitation skills to build consensus;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Contract: Fixed-term, full-time position (“CDD”) with possibility to extend depending on funding;
Location: Brussels, Belgium
Gross salary: in the region of €3700 gross per month, depending on experience
Other benefits include a thirteenth-month holiday allowance, hospitalisation insurance, affiliation to the pension scheme, meal vouchers, a monthly teleworking allowance, and a monthly commuting allowance on local public transport or by bicycle.
