On March 25th, the European Union will turn 60, the Treaty of Rome that founded the European Community, has been signed 60 years ago from now. This week, EU leaders, EU citizens and EU civil society will gather next week in Rome to celebrate this milestone and organise several events and demonstrations around it. CONCORD Europe took part in European Development Days 2016 last week. Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda represented us in the high level Opening Ceremony alongside heads of state and prime ministers. She highlighted the crucial role of civil society in development.

In June this year, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini will review the “EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy” to guide the European Union’s global actions in the future. CONCORD asks the drafting team to adopt a long-term vision rooted in human rights and the promotion of sustainable development within and outside of the EU.
