Europe’s role in tackling global challenges should have had a more ambitious budget.
CONCORD the European confederation of Relief and Development NGOs, broadly welcomes that the EU institutions have finally reached an agreement on the EU’s future budget for the next seven years.
However CONCORD regrets that the initially proposed budget for EU external action, including development aid, was not maintained.
For CONCORD Director Olivier Consolo:
“Europe’s role in tackling global challenges should have had a more ambitious budget. It’s crucial now that the EU ensures its commitment to allocate 90% of external action funding to development cooperation is implemented with eradicating poverty and addressing inequalities at its core.”
