Yesterday marked an important milestone: the European Parliament adopted its Own-Initiative (INI) report on the revamped Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) – the EU’s long-term budget. While non-binding, this report allows the Parliament to present its political vision and influence the direction of future negotiations.

We warmly welcome the Parliament’s strong support for maintaining separate financial instruments for the EU’s external action. This is a crucial step toward ensuring transparency, accountability, and a distinct, purpose-driven international cooperation agenda. Keeping instruments separate helps safeguard funding for development, humanitarian aid, and neighbourhood partnerships, shielding them from short-term geopolitical interests and preserving the long-term objectives of partner countries.

A heartfelt thank you to all CONCORD members and partners whose committed advocacy clearly made an impact. This result is a direct reflection of your work and determination.

What comes next? The Parliament’s position now feeds into the upcoming inter-institutional negotiations with the European Commission and the Council. As talks on the MFF negotiations progress, we will continue to advocate for an ambitious budget that puts sustainable development, people and the planet at its core.

Let’s keep up the momentum together.
